Jamie Sheehan
Certified CrossFit Level 1 Coach
I am originally from Commerce Michigan. I moved down to BGSU (talons up) for my undergrad and rugby and ended up staying down here ever since! I have 6 sisters and of the 7 of us 4 are now CrossFit coaches in California, Ohio, and Michigan. I am the youngest and I’ve been in the CrossFit community for more than 8 years.
I played sports all my life starting in kindergarten-middle school with basketball and softball. I continued to play basketball in high school and added track and field before going on to play collegiate Rugby at BGSU, where I obtained by undergraduate degree before receiving a master’s degree from Spring Arbor University.
Once in a great while I still jump into a Rugby tournament.
I was also a competitive Powerlifter (raw and gear) and Strongman for two years in total, competing in 5 competitions, qualifying for nationals all 5 times. Due to my advancing electrical heart condition, I had to end my career with powerlifting and strongman due and adjust my lifestyle to live with a pacemaker. I also dabbled in Olympic weightlifting and have competed locally, which was really fun! And with friends I have competed in 2 CrossFit competitions!
In my spare time I enjoy biking with my dogs and hiking (especially in California and Hocking Hills).
After the diagnoses of my electrical heart condition during senior year of college I struggled a bit to find my way as I had been involved in sports for more than 15 years. I needed to be able to monitor my heart but still find something with a competitive edge. I love that CrossFit was able to meet me where I was at that time of my journey.
I felt I was competitive at the level I needed with myself and still was able to be safe and move my body. What I love most about CrossFit is it is for everybody and body! Just like rugby, there's a position for everybody and there's room in the community for anyone looking to better themselves mentally and physically. Additionally, scaling allows athletes to challenge themselves and at the end of the workout everyone congratulates one another acknowledging that whether you are doing a pull up or a ring row you chose your hard that day, showed up, and crushed it!
Along with coaching at Fenix, I also coach with the Expanding Horizons program, and back when I was still competing in college, I was the head coach in the VERY first year of Perrysburg Girls Rugby.
I am an awkward human with ADHD, I believe If I can show up as my most authentic self it will help those around me do so too! I live with PCOS so it is a passion of mine to advocate for those living with metabolic diseases and breaking down body stereotypes!
Some fun facts about me: I am a HUGE fan of anything late 90's early 2000's- Movies, music, shows you name it! - I am a guilty pleasure person so if you've been looking to talk to someone about a new show, movie, music, book, recipe or podcast you've started I'll 100% be all ears!
I met my best friend through CrossFit! I am a Disney fan, and there may or may not be some Hakuna Matata played from time to time :). I thoroughly enjoy reading and being outside - I love photosynthesizing in the sun! My childhood nickname from my family and friends in Jaimbo.
My favorite seasons are summer and fall. I'll take sweating profusely over bundling up any day and yes, I am the person who as soon as Halloween is over Christmas music begins!
